A Quick Guide To Selecting The Right Moisturizer

Certain skin conditions may be blamed on genes, however, there is much we can do to improve our skin. Therefore, a good skin-care routine, one that includes moisturizing, can solve itching, flaking, and drab-looking skin.

Factors that lead to dry skin

The skin produces oil, also called sebum, which functions to retain moisture.  Over-washing, or using coarse soaps, can strip too much sebum from the face, leaving it subject to dryness. Dry skin appears dull, can feel tight, and there may even be some fine lines visible. If the condition worsens, this could lead to bleeding and cracking, conditions normally associated with skin disorders such as eczema and psoriasis.

Select a moisturizer for your skin type

A good moisturizer not only provides your skin with moisture − it holds the moisture in. There are various types of moisturizers on the market. Selecting one will depend on your skin type, as the wrong one can negatively affect your skin.

  • Oily skin - Oily skin contains more sebum that other skin types, yet this skin type still needs moisturizing. However, oil-based products will be unsuitable for the skin. Instead, oil-free products that contain hyaluronic acid and glycerin, will work well.
  • Dry skin - People with dry skin need a moisturizer with an oily base. Products containing jojoba oil, shea butter, or coconut oil, are best. However, if your skin is severely dry, or if you are suffering from eczema, try products that contain lactic acid, lanolin, mineral oil, or hyaluronic acid.
  • Sensitive skin - Sensitive skin is normally an indication of a weak immune system, however, it may also mean that the sufferer is easily irritated by certain ingredients. Thus, unscented, hypoallergenic creams are best. Also avoid ingredients such as retinoids, or alpha hydroxy acid.
  • Normal skin - A normal skin is neither too oily nor too dry. It is still best to opt for a light, non-greasy moisturizer, that contains lightweight oils, or is silicone based.
  • Combination skin - Having oily skin on the forehead and nose but normal skin on the cheeks is known as combination skin. Less product should be applied to the oily parts; but add some cream to the dryer areas, as you would to a normal skin.

Change your moisturizer as the weather changes

Once you have identified your particular skin type, you can select a moisturizer that will give you the best results. Do not forget to adjust it as the climate changes. For instance, in the winter, you might need a heavier cream than in the summer.

It may be confusing finding the right product, however, conducting some sample tests on your skin will help you select the one right product for your skin. This is also a good idea if the creams are pricey and you are sensitive to specific ingredients. Testing on the neck, for instance, could be a way of determining whether the product is right, or whether you need to look for something else.

What Is the Importance of Coral Reefs to Marine Life?

Coral reefs are one of the most diverse ecosystems on our planet and provide critical habitats for many species of marine life, including corals themselves. Approximately 25% of the ocean's fish depend on healthy coral reefs. There are over 1900 different types of coral, making it one of the most diverse groups in the animal kingdom. These animals build their homes out of calcium carbonate (limestone). This limestone provides a rigid structure that protects them from predators while providing shelter for many other species. Additionally, healthy coral reefs aren’t just vital for a healthy ocean ecosystem. Still, humans do benefit through being able to sustain subsistence and commercial fisheries, and they ensure the longevity of businesses and jobs through recreation and tourism. The King of the Reef – The Grouper Napoleon Wrasse

We all come to fish the islands in the hope of landing either a monster giant trevally, permit, milkfish, or other saltwater fish species; however, there are some species that are less well-known to the average angler, but highly sought after by the veterans that come year after year. One of those species is the Grouper Napoleon wrasse, otherwise known as the grouper. About Napoleon wrasse Don’t be misled; this fish isn’t named after a short French guy with a bad attitude sitting on a horse: there isn’t anything small about this Napoleon wrasse. In fact, its fighting power is immense, often exceeding its size. There have been recordings of male Napoleon wrasse measuring two metre and weighing in at 180 kilograms! However, one thing that is undeniable is that these giants are a thing of beauty.   Female groupers rarely grow over one metre in length. Mature adult male groupers will start to develop a large hump on their heads thus giving the fish its more universally common nam...

Elements of the tropical house design

Malaysia is located in a tropical zone. Its climate is vastly different from countries like the United States and Europe, where most architectural movements and innovations originate. Should foreign architecture designs not be adapted to the Malaysian weather conditions, homes may not be comfortable throughout the year. This may mean paying a high cost to control the temperature within these homes. The traditional Malay house is built on raised pillars, homes being of wood. Knowledge regarding these structures can be incorporated into modern homes that meet the needs of a modern lifestyle. This is important, a tropical house being simply a reaction to its environment. In addition, a tropical house may either be constructed taking a passive approach: unwanted climatic elements such as rain and heat are kept out. At the same time, good elements: ventilation and illumination are increased. An active approach aims to harness some climatic elements for energy, increasing the efficienc...
